From what we have learn and information that we get from the internet. We manage to find meaning for each of the 12th basic concept of ethnic relations.
1st of all, 'Assimilation' is what we can describe as a minority group that will blend and adapts to the customs and attitudes of the prevailing culture and customs.
2nd, Nation is a group of people that share their culture, history, ethnic origin and language and have it's own government.
3rd, Pluralism is when a small group survive to hold on to their culture in a larger society.
4th, Segregation in our opinion is when a group of people is devided or separated by their races.
5th, Accommodation is how and where people live at. For example, a Malay would probably live in a traditional wooden house.
6th, Prejudice is a negative thought that happen to other races. For example the Malay always envy Chinese at businesses.
7th, Discrimination is an action of habits toward the another group or races. Feeling of not satisfy about the other group.
8th, Acculturation happen when two or more culture mixing together. For example, like the Chinese who married to the Indian. Both of the races have the difference culture.
9th, Stereotype can be described as the first impression about the other race.
10th, Racism is negative thought about the other races because of the differences appear like skin tone,religious and many more.
11th, Race is what we heritage from our parents. For example our skin tone, color of our hair, and many physical appearance.
12th, Enculturation is a process to learn about other culture by their environment.
I think that's all about what we learn from class, we actually understand very well about the definition of each word above, so, it will be easy for us to understand very well about the ethnic relation.
